Who We Are

Founded in 2023, the Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Association emerged from a growing need for a grassroots, local voice in wildlife conservation—one uniquely attuned to the landscapes and traditions that make Maryland unlike any other place in the country.

While national conservation organizations serve an important role, their broad focus often overlooks the specific, localized challenges our communities face. Maryland requires solutions that reflect firsthand knowledge of its ecosystems, hunting and fishing traditions, and the people who steward its lands.

That’s where we come in.

The Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Association is committed to championing the natural resources, wildlife, and outdoor heritage that define our state. We focus on conservation policy, land use, and wildlife management—working to ensure that Maryland’s local voices are not only heard but respected in policy-making at every level.

Now more than ever, it’s time to prioritize the protection and responsible management of Maryland’s wildlife resources—for today’s Marylanders and tomorrow’s generations. Supporting Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Association is investing in a future for our local sportsman and wildlife populations.

Our Mission

We exist to protect the future of Maryland’s sporting heritage by supporting responsible hunters and landowners through sound policy promotion and on-the-ground conservation implementation. We believe that the sustainable management of game species depends on practical, science-based decisions informed by the experience of those who work the land and live the sporting life.

Our Vision

Thriving populations and sustainable management practices of game species throughout Maryland—now and for generations to come.

What We Do

  • Advocate for responsible hunting and conservation policies

  • Defend landowner rights and habitat stewardship

  • Provide a platform for the voices of hunters, land managers, and conservationists

  • Promote science-based wildlife management rooted in real-world experience

Our Impact

Since our founding, we've made important strides in ensuring a future for Maryland’s hunting heritage, including:

  • Successfully opposing legislation that would have allowed Sunday migratory waterfowl hunting in Maryland

  • Defending the continued use of lead ammunition for non-waterfowl species

  • Advocating for more responsive and transparent decision-making from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
